DESCRIPTION & Details
description
The "Singer" belongs to Kaendler's "Monkey Chapel", a famous collection of collectible figures consisting of 21 monkeys, dating from 1753. Johann Joachim Kaendler was the first model master of the manufactory and is still considered one of the greatest of his craft. With his lovingly hand-painted and detailed figures - nobly dressed monkey musicians - Kaendler wanted to hold up an ironic mirror to courtly society. Monkeys as a motif were in vogue at the time, and his figures still possess their charm today. In the still hand-painted collectible figures of the new edition by modeler Silke Ebermann, Meissen's traditional craftsmanship and Kaendler's unique skills live on.
