White Rose with Purple Centre Egg Cup
description
This egg cup was originally a part of the "New Cutout" table service that was created in the mid-18th century by Meissen's master modeller Johann Joachim Kaendler. The delicate shape, reminiscent of flower petals, with a corrugated, pointed edge, is a rare example of Baroque modesty and has served as a canvas for countless famous artwork and continues to do so to this day. Applied en détail with fine brushstrokes, the rose, as a symbol of love, occupies a special position among the MEISSEN floral motifs - a genre that experienced a golden age during the Biedermeier period. The particularly vivid artwork here is based on the flower still lifes of that era. The 24-carat gold-plated edge along the base and the lip of the cup frame the flower painting in befitting splendour.
