DESCRIPTION & Details
description
A work of art requires a suitable material in order to take perfect shape. This applies in particular to the impressive sculpture "God the Father" by Ernst Barlach, created in 1922. For this expressive figure, the artist chose red Böttger stoneware®, a material that uniquely brings out the power of its formal language. Together with its counterpart "Sleeping Peasant Couple", the sculpture reveals Barlach's humanistic attitude, which led him to seek the divine in man and the human in the divine. While some porcelain figures are elaborately hand-painted, this artwork in the Exclusive Collection deliberately refrains from any decoration. The sculpture showcases the sculptural qualities of this precious material. Whether hand-painted or left in its natural state, this artwork represents an impressive part of the MEISSEN® Exclusive Collection.
