DESCRIPTION & Details
description
A service by which all others must measure themselves. A visually stunning symphony of shapes, figures, colours and the magical interplay of light and shadow: Johann Joachim Kaendler and Johann Friedrich Eberlein worked for over five years on their 'Swan Service', commissioned by Count Heinrich von Brühl. Each individual vessel represents a variation on the central theme, the mythology of water. Glaucus, Galatea and her entourage, sea nymphs, Triton's children and dolphins grow out of the moving surfaces, are carried by them or vice versa. Everything about the vessels and figures is a flowing transition, a form created in the water. The perfection of baroque service culture in Meissen porcelain.
For the first time since the original moulding in 1739, Meissen is now presenting a new edition of the three-tiered centrepiece of the service - the central element and showpiece of the courtly table.
Over a period of around eight years, Meissen craftsmen of the highest calibre worked closely with experts from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to create this historic reproduction of Kaendler's exceptional work. It now revives a piece of European dining culture and one of the greatest masterpieces of Meissen porcelain art.
